TEACHING CREDENTIALS
I have been giving guitar lessons for over 22 years now. My first teaching job was at a music
studio which was owned by a classical guitarist and used for the purpose of instruction. Since then, I have taught in many different music stores and in many different cities
around the country, such as San Francisco, Minneapolis, and New York.
I have been hired to teach group
classes for the public school system, as well as the Chrysler Corporation. My teaching
skills have been featured on TV as well as in the newspaper.
Some of the more popular rock styles I have taught are Jimi Hendrix, Eric Clapton, Van
Halen, Yngwie Malmsteen, Dave Matthews, Joe Satriani, Metallica, Led Zeppelin, to name only a few.
I have also taught the blues, classical, folk, jazz and flamenco. Along the way, I have taught a wide
variety of ages, ranging from age 5 to 66. Aware of the fact that it's more
than just sitting in a room listening to me, I have given “student recitals” which provided
a chance for my students to get that “live playing experience”. Everyone enjoyed that one!
In June of 1990, I attended the world famous Berklee College of Music. While there, I took Jazz
History, which opened up my awareness and appreciation for the genre.
I am now teaching in my music studio which has proved to be not only an advantage for myself, but for my students as well. Here I have access to recording equipment, a keyboard (for ear training), my CDs, records, sheet music, and the computer, (for downloads, etc.,) My students have always, in my opinion, surpassed their other musical colleagues in knowledge as well as playing ability. I will continue to give the type of quality lessons that my students deserve.
